We are excited to share that SOSVITI, the EU-funded project focused on soil and slope management in vineyards, has been featured in the German bioeconomy portal Bioökonomie.de under the headline:
“Protecting Vineyards from Soil Erosion via App”
The article highlights the work of researchers at Trier University and their collaboration with Spanish and Greek partners to develop a digital decision-support tool for winegrowers. The aim is to combat soil erosion, one of the most pressing challenges in sloped viticulture areas such as the Mosel, Rhine, and Elbe valleys — a situation that also mirrors challenges in the steep slate vineyards of southern Spain.
Using drone imagery, field measurements, and vegetation monitoring, the SOSVITI team is developing a mobile app that will guide winegrowers in managing:
- Soil properties,
- Ground cover planting,
- Erosion risk zones,
- And even early detection of pests.
This tool is not only designed to support vineyard sustainability but may also be adapted to other agricultural sectors facing similar soil degradation issues.
We’re proud to see our shared work in SOSVITI gaining international visibility and contributing to smart, climate-resilient solutions in agriculture.
