This week marked an important milestone for the SOSVITI project, as partners from across Europe gathered for the second annual consortium meeting. The event brought together representatives from leading institutions and organizations, including Universität Trier, ISI Athena, Gaia Robotics, Sapienza Università di Roma, Graniot, DNAPhone S.r.l., Institut fir Biologesch Landwirtschaft an Agrarökologie Luxemburg, Orfanos Vineyards, TERRAENVISION Conferences, University of Valencia, and 7HC. The meeting was coordinated by the Universidad de Granada, with the active participation of Dr. Jesús Rodrigo Comino and the EGEMAP (Environmental Geography and Mapping; TerraLab 2-UGR) laboratory .
Exploring Innovations for Sustainable Vineyards
Throughout the meeting, participants shared the latest developments in deep learning applications, soil erosion monitoring, European mapping methodologies, and the use of drones for environmental analysis. The discussions also emphasized the perceptions and engagement of farmers—a critical aspect for ensuring that scientific and technological advances translate into real-world sustainability in vineyard management.
The integration of diverse perspectives—ranging from geomorphological studies and precision agriculture to robotics and environmental policy—highlighted the interdisciplinary strength of the SOSVITI consortium. Together, the partners reaffirmed their commitment to developing innovative tools and approaches aimed at reducing soil degradation, optimizing vineyard productivity, and promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices.
A Shared Vision for the Future of Viticulture
Beyond the technical sessions, the meeting served as a platform to reflect on the broader vision of the project: sustainability through collaboration. Each partner contributes unique expertise, creating synergies that extend beyond disciplinary boundaries and geographical regions. The discussions reinforced the shared goal of building a sustainable and digitally empowered future for European viticulture, where technology supports environmental stewardship and the wellbeing of rural communities.
Moving Forward Together
As the project moves into its next phase, the SOSVITI consortium remains committed to continuing its research, innovation, and stakeholder engagement activities. The collaboration between universities, companies, and agricultural producers ensures that both scientific excellence and practical applicability guide the path forward.
At OUR CONSORTIUM, we are proud to contribute to this European effort to better understand and protect our vineyard landscapes—combining cutting-edge technology with local knowledge to foster a more sustainable relationship between people, soils, and the environment.
Together, we move forward—uniting science, technology, and tradition to shape the future of sustainable viticulture.
