Scientific cooperation between the University of Granada and Trier, but now in Trier!

Productive Research Stay at the University of Trier

Jesús González and Laura Cambronero are pleased to report on a highly enriching research stay recently undertaken at the Department of Physical Geography at the University of Trier, Germany. Jesús González Vivar and Laura Cambronero, both researchers within the Operational Group SOSVITI and PhD candidates at the University of Granada (EGEMAP), spent one month engaged in close collaboration with the German academic team.

Focus on Remote Sensing and Precision Agriculture

During this period, Jesús dedicated his efforts to the application of remote sensing technologies utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). His work involved processing multispectral data acquired during several flight campaigns over experimental vineyard plots in the areas of Waldrach and Kanzem. The primary objective was to optimize workflows for generating valuable products pertinent to precision agriculture, including vegetation indices and digital terrain models. This research directly aligns with his doctoral dissertation, which investigates the use of remote sensors for monitoring Mediterranean woody crops.

Investigating Erosion Processes and Soil Stability

Laura concentrated on erosion-related processes. Her research encompassed the analysis of data collected from erosion plots and the acquisition of methodologies related to aggregate stability. Her principal aim is to replicate these techniques and insights in other regions of Spain, aspects that will form and enrich the core of her doctoral research and the project.

Fostering International Academic Cooperation

The reception by the faculty and research staff at the University of Trier is being exceptionally positive by Manuel Seeger, Johannes Ries and the rest of the colleagues, providing access to valuable scientific resources in a stimulating and welcoming collaborative environment. This experience facilitated a productive exchange of ideas, methodologies, and perspectives between both teams, thereby strengthening international academic cooperation.

We are confident that this type of research stay represents a significant opportunity for both professional and personal development. We anticipate that this collaboration will continue to flourish in the future through new joint secondments, scientific publications, and reciprocal exchanges.
