Jesús Rodrigo-Comino, the PI of SOSVITI, from the University of Granada participated in the IEEE Conference on Artificial Intelligence (CAI 2026), an international event focused on the latest advances and applications of artificial intelligence across different scientific and industrial sectors.
The conference, organized with the collaboration of the University of Granada, brought together researchers, companies, and professionals working on innovative AI solutions and interdisciplinary approaches to current societal and environmental challenges.
As part of the event, Jesús Rodrigo-Comino participated in the roundtable discussion on Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence, where experts from academia and industry exchanged perspectives on the opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of AI technologies in the agri-food sector.
During the discussion, special attention was given to the importance of integrating environmental sciences, geography, remote sensing, and data analysis into AI-driven agricultural solutions. The participation also highlighted the contribution of geographers and interdisciplinary research teams in advancing sustainable land management and climate resilience.
The session provided an opportunity to present ongoing research and collaborative initiatives developed within EGEMAP, DaSCI – Andalusian Institute in Artificial Intelligence, and several European projects, including SOILCRATES and SOSVITI. In particular, the SOSVITI project was presented as an example of how artificial intelligence, remote sensing technologies, and decision-support systems can contribute to sustainable soil management in Mediterranean vineyards.
The roundtable also encouraged valuable exchanges with representatives from leading companies and innovation initiatives working in agricultural intelligence and digital transformation, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between research institutions and industry stakeholders.
Participation in CAI 2026 represented an important opportunity to strengthen international visibility, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, and showcase the role of environmental geography and AI-based approaches in addressing current agricultural and environmental challenges.
